Tokokazari by Studio Gala

Ryoichi Kobayashi and his design firm Studio Gala set up shop at Wa Space for a brief 3 day pop-up event to promote their new line of seasonal decorations, or Tokokazari.

Using Mizuhiki string, Japanese Washi paper, and traditional techniques that not just Kobayashi-san fears may soon be lost, Studio Gala presented a series of 16 beautiful hand-crafted ornaments. Some depicted sea creatures (with a very notable performance by a lobster), and others were more focused on simple and elegant design, and all of them had a secret pocket to place incense in.

Wonderful work, Kobayashi-san!
